Molex Announces Custom Capacitive Level Sensors, a low-cost measurement solution with disposable sensors and reusable electronic circuitry designed to measure fluid or granular materials in non-metallic containers, patent pending The sensor electrode design and configurable software provide higher accuracy, lower hardware cost and easier installation.
Molex Engineering Manager Steve Fulton said: “Customers need to consider many factors when selecting fluid monitoring equipment for industrial and commercial processes. Capacitive liquid level sensors solve the problem of detecting substances in containers and can continuously measure thresholds without direct contact with materials. ."
Custom designed capacitive level sensors are optimized for medical fluid management systems, automotive fuel tanks, agricultural liquid cylinders, hydraulic fluid and pump control, beverage dispensing systems and other industrial applications. Capacitive sensors offer a variety of output interface options, including SB, I2C, and discrete signals, providing a custom interface to meet the needs of virtually any application. These sensors have 95% accuracy in automatic mode and 98% accuracy in manual calibration. Users can configure embedded software for maintenance-free auto-calibration or manual calibration to maximize sensor accuracy.
Capacitive sensors are equipped with flexible circuits that adapt to the shape of the container with pressure-sensitive adhesives and can be easily mounted on the outside of the container. In addition to measuring granular and powdery materials, corrosive fluids can be measured. These sensors can measure almost any non-metallic material. Capacitive sensors use solid-state capacitive technology without moving parts, eliminating mechanical wear problems over time. Capacitive sensors offer design flexibility, and sensor substrate options include PCBs, polyester flexible circuits, and polyimide flexible circuits. In terms of design, conventional PCBs can be used for flat surface containers, or thin flexible circuits can be used for curved surfaces or space-constrained applications.
The new level capacitive sensor can be used with virtually any Molex interconnect product or cable assembly, and is fully compatible with integrated designs using Molex's custom user interface, including membrane switches and capacitive touch technology.
