The tire identification number plays an important role in tire recalls and remedial activities. The amendments put forward by NHTSA include the following two points: 1. Since the NHTSA has used up the two-digit symbology used to identify the new tire factory, it is proposed to expand the first part of the TIN code (ie, manufacturer identifier) ​​to expand the two-digit symbol to three digits. 2. NHTSA proposes to standardize the length of the tire identification number to eliminate confusion that may occur with variable length identification numbers. The proposed TIN proposal has 13 new tires and 7 retreaded tires. Deadline for comments on this proposal is August 25, 2014
