Since this month, street lights in 500 streets in Singapore will be gradually replaced with LED lighting fixtures, with a total replacement capacity of approximately 4,000 ç›. It is expected that the entire replacement project will be completed in the second quarter of 2018. This streetlight replacement project is mainly distributed in streets with low traffic flow and some residential streets. These roads use relatively low wattages (between 70 and 150 watts), and the replacement project will use the life of the original. High-pressure sodium vapor lamps that have been in close proximity have been replaced with LED lamps that can save more than 30 energy. Prior to this lighting replacement project, the Singapore Department of Transportation conducted a three-year LED lighting test on Northumberland Road and Tekka Roadway, and tested 17 street lights. The Singapore Land Transport Authority is currently actively experimenting with high-wattage LED street lights (over 250 watts) on major roads and highways. Since August last year, the Land Transport Bureau has tested the energy efficiency, longevity and stability of high wattage LED streetlights in Lorong1ToaPayoh and is expected to complete this test in 2016.
