Due to the recent discovery of a highly sensitive magnetic material, the computer hard disk may soon have more storage functions by changing its magnetic properties and minor temperature changes. The material has no name, but the discoverer Ivan Schuller said that “mixed magnetic oxides may be a suitable name just like its unique properties.†“As far as I know, this is the first time such a thing has appeared in all materials. Schuller said.

The material consists of a layer of magnetically sensitive thin nickel and another layer of vanadium oxide whose characteristics change with temperature. When cold, vanadium oxide acts like an insulator, but at high temperatures it becomes similar to a metal. In any case its properties are rather strange, Schuller said. "By integrating and oxidizing magnetic materials, we created an artificial material with unique magnetic properties," Schuller said. "Because of the interaction between the interfaces, the magnetic properties between them are very unique." Any magnetic material has two important properties: magnetization and coercivity, which are usually not affected by temperature. The coercivity is the smallest reverse field applied to the inverting moment. "But as long as the temperature changes by 10 degrees, the new material will have a significant change in coercivity," Schuller said. "So you don't need to heat it to a certain temperature to magnetize it."
Since Schuller's team has shown that in principle it can change its applied electric field by changing the temperature of the metal-insulator, it may also change the coercive force of the material by applying an electric field.
