GM will increase the output of electric vehicles U.S. General Motors Corp. said on the 14th that the company plans to increase the annual production of electric vehicles to 500,000 vehicles in 2017.

Mary Barra, senior vice president of Global Product Development at GM, told the media that GM will use plug-in electric vehicles, pure electric vehicles and hybrid car technologies to achieve this goal through eAssist technology.

Barra said that eAssist technology is an important part of GM’s ongoing EV strategy. This technology means that the fuel efficiency of a car is increased by 25% through a motor and a lithium battery.

Barra said that GM’s electric vehicle production in the United States is expected to reach more than 50,000 vehicles this year. In the first 10 months of this year, GM produced 26,000 cars using eAssist technology.
