The top 10 automotive companies are: China First Automobile Group Corporation, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (Group) Corporation, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, and Beijing Automotive Engineering Corporation. According to Cai Weici, vice president of the China Machinery Industry Federation, there were 6,504 large-scale enterprises in the automotive industry in 2004. These 30 large enterprises accounted for only 0.46% of the total number of enterprises in the industry, but the amount of profits accounted for nearly 60%. According to statistics, the sales revenue of 20 automobile companies including FAW, SAIC, and Dongfeng totaled 580.1 billion yuan last year, accounting for 90.89% of the total 30 major companies in the automotive industry; the total profit was 41.1 billion yuan, accounting for the total 94.70%. Nine motorcycle companies had a total sales revenue of 37.3 billion yuan, accounting for 5.84% of the total of 30 large-scale automobile companies, and a profit of 1 billion yuan, accounting for 2.3% of the total.
